Present: Jean & Clay Bader, Amy Wise, Connie & Leonard Goodell, Jack & Mary Ann Ott, Phyllis & Bill Johnson, Dan Corcoran, Craig and Jen Paschal, David Starliper, Dana Petersen

Clay opened the meeting with further details about the upcoming Towaoc mission trip Saturday, October 9. It is a combined effort of several Methodist and Presbyterian churches to fix up the church building and grounds in Towaoc. Various maintenance tasks will be performed. The Mancos UMC has been assigned to bring $35, fruit and desserts to share with the other folks working. We have also been assigned to bring various maintenance items which Clay read off. Those that are going will meet at the church in Mancos at 7:15 a.m. Jean volunteered to pick up the supplies on our list. Another member has donated the $35. There will be a sign-up sheet posted in the Fellowship Hall next week for people to sign up for the fruit and desserts.

WON Team: Jen suggested posting a sign-up sheet for Sunday morning duties including worship leader, special music, acolytes, nursery attendant. Jen indicated the Episcopal church has agreed to do children’s Sunday school the first and third Sunday of each month so that leaves the second and fourth Sunday our responsibility.

Amy asked for more help for Laity Sunday, October 17. Joy Grant, Phyllis, Dan, Jen and Connie all volunteered to help.

PPR: Nothing to report.

Trustees: Mary Ann reported there are some concerns about security at the church. Be sure to lock doors when you leave the building(s). There have been several break-ins in the neighborhood, houses and cars alike. The motion-sensor light at the back door of the sanctuary will be re-connected. It was suggested the lights at the north and south doors of the Fellowship Hall be changed to motion sensor lights. Dan reported there is $250 budgeted for maintenance that has yet to be spent, so there is money to do it.

Mary Ann reported the orders of additional place settings are just one place setting short.

Brief discussion about the Christmas Bazaar concluded with Dana agreeing to order coffee, tea and hot chocolate from Equal Exchange again to sell at the bazaar.

Dan ran through a brief report on finances. Bottom line: we are on budget.

Leonard reported he is planning a stewardship campaign for October. He proposed a separate finance committee meeting to plan the campaign.

Dan made the suggestion that Craig should extend an invitation to church membership at the end of the Sunday service. Discussion ensued surrounding the possible advantages of increasing our membership. Craig confirmed that it is acceptable for people to be members of two different Methodist churches.

Clay brought up the need to have congregational pictures taken. The parish would like pictures of everyone. It was decided to take pictures next week during Blanche Ahrens’ going-away potluck.

Next Church Council meeting will be October 24.

Respectfully submitted,
Dana Petersen
