Present: Pastor Ora Dailey, Amy Wise, Linda Starliper, guide dog-in-training Carl, Connie Goodell, David Starliper, Barb Cover, Philip Walters, Linda Walters, Phyllis Johnson, Bill Johnson, Dee Booton, Jeff Booton, Dana Petersen, Dick Cover, Leonard Goodell, Jack Ott
Amy opened the meeting.
TRUSTEES: The question of whether to purchase a lawnmower for the parsonage was discussed. It was decided to wait and see if the new pastor and his family have one.
Bill Johnson told the group that Vic Bruce has a snow blower he would like to give away. It was agreed someone will go pick it up.
Ora then brought up the employment status of Julia Whelihan who cleans the church and fellowship hall weekly. There has been a longstanding issue of whether she is a church employee or an independent contractor. There are tax obligations surrounding this issue. After brief discussion, it was decided this determination will be done in a meeting of just the Trustees.
Ora reported the “You Count” lunches will continue through the summer on June 26, July 31, and August 28.
Linda Walters reminded the group of several jobs still needing to be completed: roof above bathrooms in Fellowship Hall leaks, the last bit of soffitt on parsonage garage needs to be finished, the parsonage porch needs repairs and paint. Ora offered that people could work on the parsonage in her absence in the coming week.
Ora also mentioned a stump at the corner of the parsonage lot makes it extremely difficult to park two cars in the garage. Jack Ott volunteered to remove the stump. Someone also volunteered to see if Nolands will dump a load of gravel behind the garage.
Philip Walters revisited the issue of changing all the locks at the church. We are not longer sure who all even has a key and several keys don’t work well any more. However, after some discussion, it was decided not to do this right now.
Discussion then turned to the parsonage kitchen and possibly buying a dishwasher and new cabinets. It was decided this will also be an item for a Trustees meeting.
WON TEAM: Dee reminded the group that Joyful Noise costs can be reimbursed.
Most folks simply donate the dinners, but they can still offer an estimate
of the expense so the cost of this ministry can be tracked and thus budgeted
for.
Vacation Bible School will be June 21-25. Numerous “regulars”
will be out of town that week and there is yet no director. After some discussion,
Ora volunteered to direct and also seek leadership help from the other churches.
Linda W. and Phyllis Johnson have volunteered to help.
Mancos Days – Amy Wise suggested having a booth again this year but simply providing free cold water in order to have a presence at the event. It was agreed this would be a good idea and Amy volunteered to coordinate getting a booth and finding volunteers.
Lighthouse Kids are continuing to meet for some of the summer. Connie Goodell and Barb Cover are going to check in to entering the ark built by Brad Goodell and the kids in the Mancos Days parade. Dee B. reminded all that more adult help is always needed to support this Wednesday evening ministry.
Ora mentioned she will need a fill-in for the Valley Inn Service on May 30. Dana Petersen volunteered to do this.
Transfer Weekend will be August 21-22 this year. Barb C. volunteered to reserve the campground.
Amy W. next brought up visitation of shut-ins, especially delivering communion. She would like to restart this ministry and so asked for help compiling a list of people. Linda Starliper, Barb C., and Connie G. all volunteered to help get this going again.
Linda W. invited anyone to take her place the next couple of weeks playing cards on Thursday afternoons with Virginia Hess at the Valley Inn, as Linda will be out of town.
Ora’s farewell party will be Sunday, June 27. It will be an afternoon potluck for the parish, then a communitywide affair over dessert. Dee B. and Connie G. will coordinate. After some discussion as to a gift, it was decided to pitch in and buy her a certificate to Tattered Cover Bookstore. Dana P. agreed to take care of purchasing this.
Meeting adjourned.
The next Work of the Church session will be held in July.
Respectfully submitted,
Dana Petersen
