Present: Pastor Craig Paschal, Connie & Leonard Goodell, Barb & Dick Cover, Linda Starliper, Mary Ann & Jack Ott, Margie Russell, Linda & Phillip Walters, Dan Corcoran, Dale Wright, Amy Wise, Dana Petersen

Margie Russell opened the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Dan reported offerings for the first four months are more than was budgeted. He clarified the way special offerings will be accounted for. He will make a separate item for these because they are not really budgeted items.

Pastor’s Report: Craig encouraged everyone to find their niche for service to our church and community. Craig proposed $200 be given by the church from the community outreach fund for the special offering “Peace with Justice.”

Philip made a motion to put $200 from the outreach fund toward the “Peace with Justice” special offering. Leonard seconded. The motion passed.

A retired minister staying at the Valley Inn would like to start a Bible study there. Craig will be helping him get that started.

Craig requested taking May 29 off in order to attend services in Kansas.

WON Team: Vacation Bible School will be June 6-9, 9:00-11:30 each day. The curriculum has been selected and has a farm theme related to harvesting the fruits of the Spirit. Connie and Jen will be co-directing and coordinating it.

Joyful Noise will hold its last session May 11. Several ideas for summer get-togethers and outings are in the works.

The next “Parents’ Night Out” will be Friday, May 20, from 6:30-9:00. No dinner will be served, but there will be a snack.

The brunch tentatively scheduled for May 15 has been postponed.

Connie reported the Older Adult Ministries will be joining up with the Cortez church program. Several events are already planned. The newsletter will have an article about the upcoming events.

The Rocky Mountain Conference is holding a conference on Older Adult Ministries in Grand Junction on July 29. Connie may be helping teach one of the workshops in addition to attending. Craig suggested the church could pay the conference fees for Connie. She will get more details and pass them along.

PPR: A nursery attendant has been hired and will be starting as soon as the background check comes back. Barb Cover suggested an item should be placed in the newspaper announcing that we will have a Sunday school attendant again.

Leonard Goodell reviewed Craig’s evaulation. There were 10 evaluations filled out. Overall, the reviews were favorable.

PPR voted to increase the pastor’s annual salary to $24,000 effective immediately. This would be below the salary level at which the church would then have to pay health benefits through the conference.

Phillip made a motion to approve the salary increase. Margie seconded. Discussion ensued regarding when the raise would take effect.

Phillip amended his motion to increase the pastor’s annual salary $5,000 to $24,000 effective May 1, 2005. Margie and Mary Ann seconded.

After brief discussion regarding the fact PPR may revisit this issue to discuss moving him to full-time, the motion passed.

Trustees: Linda reported the entryway to the Fellowship Hall is going to be spruced up by Brad Goodell. The ceiling above the bathrooms needs to be replaced. Phillip volunteered to replace the drywall. Several others volunteered to help with the painting. Thanks went to Dick Cover and David Starliper for painting the entryway on the north side of the Fellowship Hall. The small wall oven in the kitchen is broken. The estimate to fix it was $615. Philip will look into the problem to see if it can be repaired for less money. The freezer in the basement at the parsonage is working fine.

The memorial walkway is still being investigated with regard to costs.

Spring cleanup day at the church will be May 21 at 9:00 a.m. A long list of to-do items has been developed.

Other business: Amy reported on upcoming annual conference. Dee Booton is going as our lay delegate and Amy is going as an equalization delegate for the district. Amy requested $179 from the church for expenses. She noted $105 of that would be reimbursed by the district. They are planning to share a hotel room with Ora Dailey so there would be no additional hotel expenses.

Barb Cover made a motion to pay the $179 registration with the understanding $105 will be reimbursed later by the district. Linda Walters seconded. Motion passed.

Dee and Amy will be requesting additional special offerings for various conference programs over the next few months.

The next Work of the Church meeting will be June 5.

Respectfully submitted,
Dana Petersen
