April 2, 2005

Present: Dee & Jeff Booton, Jennifer & Craig Paschal, Linda & Philip Walters, Barb & Dick Cover, Amy Wise, Phyllis Johnson, Clay Bader, Dan Corcoran, Brad Goodell, Margie Russell, Dana Petersen

Clay called the meeting to order at 11:25.

Treasurer’s Report: Dan C. handed out and briefly discussed the year-to-date finances. We have not had to withdraw from Wachovia as much as was planned and expenses are generally on budget. He then reported on income and offerings over the past year. Giving is generally up about 2% when considered over the past 12 months, and 45% for the first three months of 2005 versus the first three months of 2004.

Finally, Dan reported the Wachovia stock fund (now made up mainly of Exxon-Mobil stock) has increased significantly in the past year.

Margie Russell moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Phyllis seconded. Motion approved.

WON Team: After some discussion, there was a general consensus on the week June 6-9 or Vacation Bible School.

The first Parents’ Night Out will be 6:30-9:00, Friday, April 22. Linda W., Dana P., Dee B., and Barb C. will be in charge.

Sunday, May 15 – We will have a special brunch following church to welcome back the snowbirds. Details to follow.

Craig reported on a couple of new memberships and baptisms coming up. He would like to have a potluck after church April 24 to celebrate these.

Craig also reported that pending a background check, April Wright will be our new nursery attendant.

PPR: Craig will be gone June 15-19 for Annual Conference.

Evaluations of Craig will be distributed next Sunday and be available on the website.

Craig will be going to school July 5-16.

Amy reported her interest in starting an HIV/AIDS fundraising effort to continue through the summer in the form of a farmer’s market and/or booth at Mancos Days. She would like to donate money raised to UMCOR.

Craig then reported on our Sunday school sharing with the Episcopals. The Episcopals have not had children attending whereas our numbers have been about a dozen. Jennifer discussed this with Patsy Smith and they agreed we will take over three Sundays a month and the Episcopals cover one. Jennifer will cover two of the Sundays but we need one other person to take over the first Sunday of the month. A sign-up sheet will be put up with the changes.

Dee and Dana will be put together a newsletter by Wednesday. Phyllis and Linda volunteered to run it off and get it ready for mailing.

New business: Craig reported on a traveling gospel group that contacted him and requested support for their trip – hotel rooms, etc. – in exchange for a concert. After brief discussion, there was no support for this.

The next Work of the Church meeting will be Sunday, May 1.

Meeting adjourned at 12:22.

Respectfully submitted,
Dana Petersen
