PPR - Amy reported on a meeting held with Glenda Ulmer in re: the surveys completed by the congregation and Ora about the future ministerial role of a part-time pastor. Also in attendance at that meeting were Dick Cover, Phyllis Johnson, Tyrel Cox, Esther Cook and Ora.
The congregation’s survey results of how a part-time pastor should spend his/her time were roughly tallied as follows.
1. Worship preparation
2. Counseling
3. Teaching
4. Deepening Christian relationships
5. Visitation
6. Administration
The things the congregation thought laity could best help with are:
1. Visitation - hospital
2. Visitation - new members, etc.
3. Deepening Christian relationships
4. (Unclear what this item was.)
5. Teaching
6. Administration
Glenda will deliver our information to the Bishop around the end of April. She will then return and meet with the PPR committee to discuss possible candidates, then later still another meeting will be held with an actual candidate for the position.
General discussion ensued, mainly about administrative duties and there was a general consensus that the laity should take on many administrative duties themselves.
Amy encouraged anyone with questions or comments to talk to any member of PPR.
WON Team - Dee reported on Lighthouse and Joyful Noise activities. There will be a potluck Seder Wednesday, April 7. The kids from Lighthouse will be performing a puppet show.
Anyone wishing to have a lily displayed at the Easter service should buy it himself or herself and bring it to the church the Saturday before. Also, be sure to let Ora know whom it is for if it is a memorial or honorary.
Amy is in charge of the Easter egg hunt after the service. Joyful Noise will be dyeing and stuffing the plastic eggs.
There will be a potluck breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. Easter morning in the Fellowship Hall. Sign-up sheet is posted.
Treasurer - Dan Corcoran reported the finances are rolling along smoothly. We have made a couple of withdrawals from the Wachovia account, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Trustees - Linda reported the van speedometer/odometer went on the fritz in the cold a couple weeks ago, but is working again.
The (now unused) chimney on the parsonage is in need of attention and should probably be either stabilized or pulled down. Dana P. offered to take it down in exchange for the bricks.
After a bit more discussion about work needing to be done at the parsonage, it was decided to have an ALL-CHURCH WORKDAY, SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 9:30 a.m. to clean up construction debris, finish the siding on the garage, and clean out the basement at the parsonage. There also may be some painting to do.
Philip, Dick and Linda will take a look at the leaky roof over the bathrooms now that the snow is gone. David Starliper and Dick are going to check in to re-seeding parts of the lawn.
Discussion then shifted to the monthly Taize service and it was decided to have this service every Monday at 6 p.m. starting in April.
Meeting adjourned.
