January 8, 2005
Present: Pastor Craig Paschal, Phyllis Johnson, Dan Corcoran, Clay Bader, Leslie Feast, Brad Goodell, Jack & Mary Ann Ott, Dana Petersen, Dick & Barb Cover, Margie Russell
Trustees: Brad Goodell agreed to serve as co-chair of the trustees while Mary Ann is away.
Mary Ann has been researching racks to put under the front row of chairs where the pew has been removed. She is finding a range of prices. After some discussion, it was agreed that Mary Ann will call the company that we bought the blue choir chairs from and inquire about book racks for those. If they have some, she will order five.
Craig mentioned the wear and tear being caused by the half dozen or so skaters that use the sidewalk and steps in front of the church. It was generally agreed that this was acceptable because those kids have no place else to go.
WON Team: Barb C. brought up the new directory that Amy Wise, Phyllis Johnson and Dana P. have agreed to work on. Dan C. mentioned he has a very complete list of anyone who has written a check to the church in the past year. He will turn this in to an Excel spreadsheet and forward it to Dana P. who will begin the process of updating it with phone numbers and addresses.
Pastor’s report: Craig mentioned Mason Willis is interested in coming back to fill in during the two weeks Craig will be going to school this summer. All agreed this sounds like a good idea.
Craig mentioned the need for a substitute nursery attendant on occasion. He noted that one of the teens in the church has been filling in as needed. It was generally agreed this is fine as long as there is an adult Sunday school teacher in the Fellowship Hall as well.
Craig is planning to start small group meetings in February.
Finance report: Dan reported the successful switch to now requiring only a single signature for checks. The documents were signed, sealed and delivered last week.
Dan presented a year-end 2005 report. We received 54% more than budgeted for offerings and there was no need to withdraw money from the Wachovia account. All told, we were $911 ahead at the end of the year. In broad summary, the church gave approximately $17,000 for local and non-local outreach during 2005. (A detailed report is on file with the original minutes.)
Dan then requested someone to perform the conference-mandated audit. Esther Cook’s name came up. Clay B. agreed to call Esther and ask if she would be willing to perform the audit.
Dan warned our new janitorial staff is a contracted service, not employees of the church. There are vastly different tax consequences so we need to be clear that they are contract employees.
Meeting adjourned at 11:45.
The next Work of the Church meeting will be February 12.
Respectfully submitted,
Dana Petersen
